The cardboard package was ripped but everything was ok. I have a small compressor without a tank and this Makita is quieter! I don’t know if they changed wheels but mine were fine. Haven’t really tested it completely, but so far so good! Thanks, Makita

My two old pancake compressers wouldn’t keep up in the heat even hitched in tandem and a quick tool search was necessary to keep the job moving as local purchase isn’t an option here in the sticks. Reviews pointed me to this unit and to be prepared for sorry wheels and packing. Most of the other complaints seemed riskable. People that whine about the weight , noise and such must not study the specs as that’s all in there.Anyway I bought the compresser reconditioned and it arrived via fed ex with the box showing some damage which is less than the train wreck expected from UPS. The box was heavy cardboard but inside there was about no reinforcement to protect the tool. The only thing preventing total destruction was the rugged design of the tool itself, which was mostly unharmed save bunches of paint chipped off the handles and one wheel which was not only off the tool but the rim was seperated from the tire! Well it was a recon so the paint is no biggie but the wheel is inexcusable and not worth blaming on the shipper. Hey, did I mention I needed this thing for work? All the mechanics seemed good so I fired up for the break in and set about pounding and prying the miserable excuse for a wheel back to some semblence of function. The compresser itself has been a joy to use on the job and my only regret is I didn’t do this a long time ago. However others have pointed out the pathetic wheels and packing going back far enough for the Makita folks to have straightened this out way before now. I go way back with Makita tools and can’t figure how they can have such a disparity in quality within one product so be advised at Makita I’m keeping out a skeptic eye.

Makita MAC5200 13.8 Amp 3 HP 5 Gallon Oiled Wheeled Single Hot Dog Compressor has been rated 5 starsso far, so good…

I’m thinking this will be a great compressor for me. I am a “harry homeowner”, as referred to by another review. I need to run my small nail gun, use a blow gun to clean things, and fill tires. I’m hoping that this unit will run an impact gun, if I need to in the future, and maybe run a small, portable sand blast unit.n
I have used it twice in the last 3 days – filled a tire and ran my nail gun. So far, so good. I am impressed with the short amount of time it takes to re-pressurize. I have been using a 1.5 gallon Campbell-Hausfeld for several years. It ran my nail gun pretty well, but took SOOOO long to refill. I think I burnt the brushes out of the motor and haven’t fixed it yet. This Makita is a huge step up for me. I looked at a number of units before buying this one. My decisions were based on price and not wanting to get another oil-less compressor. The specs on this also won me over – the rated 3 hp and the CFM ratings. The math in my head said this is a powerful compressor compared to a 20 gallon that has a 1 or 1.5 hp motor. I do realize that 20 gallons at the same pressure as 5 has it’s benefits, but all around I think it is a good choice for me.n
I like the way the unit is designed. I like the storage compartment, the hangers for hose and tools, the rubber handles that are strategically placed, and the fact that it is heavy and well built.n
I read all of the reviews before I decided. Mine was delivered by UPS. It had a large tear in the box but no damage to the unit there. The paint on the ends of the tank and the front “rollbar” are scuffed some from rubbing againt the cardboard box. No big deal. Yes, they could probably put more packing in, but they did not use styrofoam( good choice for the environment ). So far, the wheels are okay. I am not impressed with anyone who puts cheapo wheels on something that needs to be rugged. I feel for the people who have to change the wheels when they use this tool everday “in the field”.n
So far, so good. I may write another review later after some time using it.

Makita MAC5200 13.8 Amp 3 HP 5 Gallon Oiled Wheeled Single Hot Dog Compressor has been rated 5 starsSprinkler System Winterize
    n

I purchased the Makita MAC5200 to blow-out (winterize) my underground sprinkler system. I have 6 zones with my longest run about 400 feet with 6 Hunter rotary heads. The compressor worked great and saved me $95. With the accessories and fittings I purchased at Lowes to make an adaptor it will pay for itself in 4 years. It takes about 75 seconds for the tank to recover from each use. You get from 45 to 30 seconds of air time and it took 4 to 6 times to completely blow out each zone. The compressor is very well built.
