About the Gerber LMF II Infantry Knife

This infantry knife also does a slick job cutting firewood and building shelter and can even be lashed to a pole to create a spear. On the end of the knife is a flat spot strong enough to drive a nail. This rugged and versatile survival tool features a high carbon stainless blade with shielded black surface. A Note About LMF II Inventor Jeff Freeman
The Army trained Jeff to be an expert machinist, and then stationed him in Panama to perform aviation maintenance and toolmaking. Upon completion of his tour of duty he earned his BS in Manufacturing Engineering from Oregon State University while working full-time as a welder, machinist and ironworker. He joined the Gerber team in 1998. In the spring of 2000, he was promoted to Senior Mechanical Engineer and has been involved in new product design and development. Jeff’s design credits include the Freeman Fixed Blade and collaboration on the Gerber-Emerson Alliance.

The Gerber Story
Savvy. Ingenuity. Moxie. Craftsmanship. Attention to detail. These are just a few of the company traits that contributed to our emergence as a world leader in outdoor gear. But then there’s the issue of toughness. And frankly, nothing could be tougher than living down the first career of founder Joseph Gerber as…that’s right…an advertising man. You could call it the “Boy Named Sue” syndrome. And live it down we have.

Joseph Gerber started Portland, Oregon’s Gerber Advertising back in 1910. One Christmas, he hired a local knifemaker to craft 25 sets of kitchen cutlery as client gifts. The knives were so popular, Mr. Gerber ultimately left his agency to launch Gerber Legendary Blades in 1939.

It makes sense, really. An idea man gets the idea of a lifetime and turns it into a major outdoor brand. One that commands respect among knifelovers and knifemakers alike. And now that high regard is spreading in new directions, in the form of many outstanding products. Such as tools, personal L.E.D. lighting, and backpack hydration.

i would buy this knife again it does everything it needs to do around camp, very sturdy, the only thing the sheath is huge but with the sharperner and the leg straps i guess it needs to be, the calf straps are cool, because you can simply attach this huge knife to your leg and walk around, it messes with people which is fun

Always wanted a solid survival knife that I could depend on. This is it. I have tried it out at home to see what it could do and I was not dissapointed. It will cut through just about anything, I abused it in everyway possible and it still looks the same. I know there are more expensive knives but why spend the money.

This knife will, first, outlast it’s owner. It will also take anything I’ve thrown at it. It is light, simple, and very solid. The sheath is MOLLE compatible, and has an integral sharpener. It’s a mean, well-built knife.

Gerber 22-01629 LMF II Black Infantry has been rated 4 starsGreat Knife

I bought this knife for a young man that is training in knife fighting and will be going survival camping with me this fall. I searched high and low for a knife that would fit the survival and fighting needs well. I was impressed by all of the reviews on this knife and am very happy with my choice. I initially started knife shopping because one of my sons is on orders for Iraq, is in the infantry, and I thought he should have a good knife. I chose the Kabar Warthog for him and myself. After ordering the LMF II, I was second guessing my kabar purchase, but I like the Kabar Warthog fixed blade better than the LMF even though it is not as specialized in design. If I was an Army Aviator, I would surely carry the LMF II.n

The knife is well constructed, of high quality materials. I really like the concept of the full tang, though fully insulated from the butt cap. I am not fond of a serrated blade, nor the serrated location on the blade. n

The knife has a nice weight, and balance. I don’t like the handle shape, it doesn’t fit my large hands well. Luckily the young man is only 13 so he does not have that problem.n

The blade sharpens up very nicely, and I am sure this knife will serve him well in the future. The sheath is overkill for most, but offers a myriad of options for carry,

Gerber 22-01629 LMF II Black Infantry has been rated 4 starsGood knife

Love the sharpener in the sheath and partially serated blade, but I don’t love how the sheath doesn’t have any clips or loops to attach to a belt! I had to rig my sheath up with some paracord to make loops for my belt to pass through. That is why I gave this product 4 stars and not 5.n

Other items to note: mine came with what appears to be a leg holster type of thing to wrap around your calf, and this knife is fairly heavy and feels quite solid.
