I agree with the other comments that it is a light weight plastic. But that is what I like about it. When using a hand held router or sander the other heavy hoses tend to pull against you. I also like the hose because it is extra long. My shop vac hose is only about 6 feet. The 15′ in this hose lets you move around the work piece with out having to lug the shop vac with you.
I’ve used this hose for about 3 months now. I’ve even stepped on it a few times and have not had it collapse on me. Maybe my shop vac is not strong enough, but even then there is a flow control to reduce the suction in the hose.
In my opinion this product is fine. Maybe after several more months or years of use these other folks comments will come true.
After reading the reviews on this product in conjunction with the RS006 I was concerned. The hose friction-fits both the RS006 and my craftsman shop vacuum 2 1/4″ female port just fine. I just took another look at the web offering and the shop vacuum male end is listed at 2 1/2 in” diameter. This is most confusing. The cost of the hose was a little high, considering what it is made of. My only other thought is that there is direct relationship between length of hose and suction. My shop vacuum sings as if the hose was plugged, signifying limited air flow. Shorter may be better. To those needing a hose, it works just fine.
Keep in mind on this hose it is only 19mm – 25.4 mm would be 1 inch – 38mm would be roughly 1.5 inches, so this is HALF the diameter or 1/4 the cross sectional area of a typical shop vacuum hose which will drop airflow significantly – fine for drywall dust but if you get a piece of paper or a edge strip sucked into this hose you are likely to clog it. The fitting on the vac end is the standard 2″ (50mm) fitting, so your hose is going from 19mm to 50mm with a high probability of clogging with any large object (nail, drywall screw, paper, etc) which would fly easily through 1.5″ hose (38mm).
Perhaps packaged with a small nozzle for computer keyboards or a dusting brush for computer fans and laptop fans it would be useful – as it is it’s trouble – look at the Mr. Nozzle hoses – much better professional grade hardware.
This hose is exactly what I was looking for. Some of the other reviewers perhaps were not using this hose for it primary intended use:
If you look nearer towards the top of this page, you’ll see a section titled: “Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought.” Looking here, you’ll really see what this hose is for: sanding! So, just to be clear, this hose is really not meant for all-around general vacuuming jobs, and for this purpose, I think you’d be disappointed.
For me, it works wonderfully with my Bosch 1/4 sheet sander. Basically, the hose is very lightweight and flexible. I tried using a regular shop-vac hose along with some adapters, but there was probably one foot of fittings hanging off the end of my sander, and it could only be held with two hands. It was about as easy as sanding with something as big and heavy as a circular saw.
With this hose, I can pick the sander up with one hand, and maneuver it around effortlessly. Sanding is light and controlled, and most of all – clean. And for fine sanding, I would also recommend picking up a disposable drywall bag for your shop-vac too – it will totally eliminate dust clouds coming out of your shop-vac. FYI – this hose should fit most ShopVac brand vacs, but will NOT fit “Ridgid” brand vacs.
It seems some of the reviewers are confused as to the purpose of this hose. It is not a general purpose shop vac hose. It is designed specifically to hook up to Bosch sanders without having to use the VAC002 adaptor to a 1 1/4″ hose. I use it on the RS006 adaptor which replaces the canister on the 1295 and 1293. And it slides right on to the port on the 3×21 belt sander.
It has been made light so you can easily sand with it. To make it big, heavy and reinforced would defeat it’s purpose. It makes sanding much easier. At 15 ft long you have enough hose and it has a 2 1/4 male end that attaches right to your shop vac. For use specifically with Bosch sanders (or maybe some other European stuff with the same size sander pickup) I recomend it highly.
